Mzansi Magic Open Period, Fees TV Pop-Up Channel, new shows & more on DStv Loving Local this week
It’s going to be an exciting week on the local front with Mzansi Magic’s Open Period making the channel available for free to DStv Family and DStv Access subscribers from Monday, 4 October to Friday, 8 October. Aside from a host of new reality shows and seasons, Magic (DStv channel 161) is launching two brand-new drama series this week: Umkhokha is a story about two families at war, and Grootboom & Sons takes us inside a feuding family in the funeral business.

New series
Umkhokha S1
This new Sunday-night thriller series about power and betrayal tells the tale of two families at war following the death of a patriarch and the fierce competition to take over his church. With Sthandiwe Kgoroge (The Road) as the dead man’s scheming widow and a cast of stars including Nay Maps (The Queen), Linda Sokhulu (Housekeepers), Deli Malinga and Sibonile Ngubane.

This drama set in a family funeral home sees one woman on her deathbed expecting her sons to take over, while her estranged sister has selfish plans. But what if the fate of a family business was left in the hands of the wrong sibling? Stars include Zandile Msutwana, Bongile Mantsai, and Charmaine Mtinta.

Actress Rami Chuene and life coach Romeo Mabasa host this 13-episode reality series in which they offer four teams of two people each some time away at a bootcamp in nature where they can work on repairing their relationships. They’ll get to visit 7 of SA’s most interesting National Parks including Mapungubwe, Tsitsikamma and Kruger.
