In local Afrikaans drama series Alles Malan, the Malan family from the Paarl in the Boland are those dramatic neighbours who make your street interesting to live on. There’s envy, secrets and outbursts – because if a family runs a business together, stepping on toes is part of the deal. But blood is thicker than water and when there is a problem, family patriarch Derik (Albert Maritz) and matriarch Brenda (Elsabé Daneel) set great examples for how to support your kids and grandkids. And at the end of the day, they can still laugh together.
