National Geographic (DStv Channel 181) will premiere a gripping new true-crime series, Killer Lies: Chasing a True Crime Con Man, on Sunday, 6 October 2024 at 21:00 CAT. The three-part series delves into the shocking rise and fall of Stéphane Bourgoin, a French serial killer expert who was exposed as a fraud by a group of vigilant online sleuths.
Produced by The New Yorker Studios and Left/Right, Killer Lies is based on Lauren Collins’s 2022 New Yorker exposé "Murder, He Wrote." The series expands on her investigation into Bourgoin, who built a career on his supposed expertise in serial killers, claiming to have interviewed numerous murderers and even citing the killing of his wife as motivation. However, after 40 years of fame and dozens of books, his credibility crumbled when a collective known as 4ème Oeil Corporation (4th Eye) uncovered his fabrications.
Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Ben Selkow, the series reveals exclusive interviews with the 4th Eye members, alongside footage from Bourgoin’s films and TV appearances, as well as his most in-depth interview where he addresses his motives for constructing such elaborate lies. Through its episodes, Killer Lies examines where Bourgoin's truth ends and his deception begins.
Don’t miss Killer Lies: Chasing a True Crime Con Man premiering on 6 October at 21:00 CAT on National Geographic (DStv Channel 181).
