SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED EPISODE 4 YET
The players back at the houthuis realised that there was no longer just eleven of them. Jacques Broodryk, who, among other things, was an investigative journalist and is now the spokesperson for a civil rights organisation, is a hulk of a man with many talents. Upon his arrival, he immediately makes an impact with the implementation of two game changing ideas.
But where exactly does Jacques fit in? Is he perhaps a spy, or is he here to play just as hard as the others?
His first day as a fellow player was a rainy one. The gloomy weather caused some players to seek shelter and abandon their work, while others showed that they weren’t afraid of a few drops. When Jacques quickly fell ill and ended up in bed, Avril clucked around him like a mother hen. She even put raw onions in his socks on his chest to help him recover faster.
Jacques was afraid that his illness would make him appear weak to the others, but most players in the group still saw him as a strategist and fixer – someone you want on your side.
Yoga instructor Sam opened up about his childhood on a farm and how his life changed when he came out as gay at the age of 16. Marna shared how losing her mom at the tender age of 13 influenced her life and how her passion for fitness tends to make people forget that she is also a wedding planner.
Viewers also got to witness the beautiful friendship between the oldest participants, Nonnie and Larry, who have become two peas in a pod.
Larry, however, also stirred controversy when he started canvassing the other players to have Avril removed as leader. Avril didn’t hold back with the criticism either, as she shared some rather spicy comments about some of the players, noting that Marna complains too much, and Rob often just sits around doing nothing.
But it was the flare and the letter that really shook things up. It was short and powerful: Jacques, who had just arrived, must decide who will be removed from Die Brug next. And then, while the group was still processing this shock, an unknown woman arrived on a quad bike ...
