UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League preview, 14 March 2024

The Quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League will be up for grabs for major names such as Liverpool and AC Milan on Thursday 14 March.

DStv also offers a wide range of language options, including English original, Swahili, Ki-Swahili, Amharic, Pidgin, Twi, Luganda and Portuguese, while DStv Stream allows viewers to watch their favourite football live anywhere, any time.

Liverpool and Milan will complete their Europa League ties against Czech Republic clubs Sparta and Slavia Prague respectively, with Rossoneri manager Stefano Pioli acknowledging the strength of their opponents, but also insisting that they are very much in control of their own destiny.

“We progressed through our tie in the Europa League, and we’re in the competition to give it a go and fight to win it,” said Pioli. “Our destiny depends on ourselves, not on our opponents and the draw. In Europe, easy opponents don’t exist; Slavia Prague won their group ahead of Roma and are fighting to win their league domestically.”

Another team to watch in the Europa League is Bayer Leverkusen, who are on course to win the Bundesliga and looking to add a continental adventure to a brilliant campaign under manager Xabi Alonso. They face Qarabag for a fourth time (once in the first leg of this tie, plus twice in the group stages) and will be confident of progression.

“Qarabag have lots of experience in Europe, a good coach and a clear game plan,” said Alonso. “We have to be wide awake and play with full concentration. Games like these can throw you off course if they don’t turn out like you expected.”

Elsewhere, Villarreal tackle Olympique Marseille in Spain, Rangers will hope to overcome Benfica at the atmospheric Ibrox, Sporting CP face a tricky clash away to Atalanta, and English clubs West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion will be at home to SC Freiburg and Roma respectively.

In the Conference League, Aston Villa and Fiorentina will look to make the most of home advantage when they welcome Ajax and Maccabi Haifa respectively.
