The best coverage of the 2024 Formula 1 (F1) World Championship is only on DStv! The Open Window will cover the first two rounds of the 2024 season: the Bahrain Grand Prix on Saturday 2 March and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday 9 March. You may be wondering why these Grands Prix are on a Saturday instead of the usual Sunday? 

This stems from two factors: the start of Ramadan on Sunday 10 March, which necessitated the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix being brought forward to Saturday 9 March; and Formula 1 regulations stipulate that there must be at least one week between Grands Prix, therefore the Bahrain GP has been brought forward a day to Saturday 2 March as well. 

Regardless of the Saturday race start to the season, the same speed, outrageous technology, and razor-sharp driving skills will be on full HD display. A spectacle that no one can afford to miss, Formula 1 is, after all, the ultimate showcase of man and machine coming together to eat up the tarmac in the fastest and most efficient way possible! 

The 2024 season sees no change to the driving line-ups compared to the end of 2023, though we do have two re-branded teams: Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri are now known as Sate F1 Team Kick Sauber and Visa Cash App RB F1 Team respectively. 

The driver market may be static for this year, but the news that Lewis Hamilton will move to Ferrari in 2025 will have a domino effect throughout the rest of the grid, with some other major driving changes sure to be confirmed during the 2024 campaign. 

Hamilton may be jumping ship from Mercedes, but he would love to give the 'Silver Arrows' a grand goodbye with a strong showing in the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships through 2024. 

"I feel the most motivated and focused I’ve ever been. Every year you come back you’re like I’m fitter than ever and all these other things,” said Hamilton. “But I genuinely feel I put more work, more time, and more focus into preparation this year. 

“I never thought that at this point in my life I would have hunger like I do right now. And to finish on the high with the team, it would be a dream. We’ve gone through a whole heap together. So, to finish on a high, it would be the greatest honour to be able to help them get back to the top." 

Standing in Hamilton and Mercedes' way will be Max Verstappen and Red Bull, who were astonishingly dominant last season and start as clear favourites for more glory – especially after the launch of their RB20 car, which is being tipped to continue the success enjoyed by the predecessors of RB18 and RB19 which brought Verstappen titles in 2021 and 2022 respectively. 

"So last year’s car was an evolution of the ’22 in the main points being the normal winter development in terms of aerodynamics, some understanding of what we need to do with the suspension to try to improve the car as well, and getting weight out of it because we never got down to the weight limits in ’22," said Red Bull designer Adrian Newey, who has had a hand in creating some of the most dominant F1 cars in history. 

“This year’s car is the third evolution of that original RB18. Now, what we don’t know, of course, is [whether] the third evolution is too conservative while others have done something different. You just don’t know."
