Sunday’s Round of 16 action gets going at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan with a clash between Equatorial Guinea and Guinea.

Nzalang Nacional were the surprise table-toppers in Group A, especially impressing this past Monday when they crushed tournament hosts Cote d’Ivoire 4-0, while Guinea were one of the best third-placed teams after picking up four points in Group C from their matches against Cameroon (1-1), Gambia (1-0) and Senegal (0-2).

“We are working to reach the level of the big guys. What we want is to believe in ourselves and try to win every time,” said Equatorial Guinea coach Juan Micha.

The second match on Sunday pits Egypt against DR Congo at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.

The Pharaohs failed to win a match in Group B, but three 2-2 draws against Mozambique, Ghana and Cape Verde were enough to secure second spot, while DR Congo came home second in Group F having also recorded a trio of draws against Zambia, Morocco (both 1-1) and Tanzania (0-0).

“Now the real competition begins,” warned Egyptian attacker Trezeguet. “In the knockout matches, our experience will make the difference, if God wills and we will go to the end.”
