NBA preview 19-25 January 2024

DStv is your home of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. DStv Stream allows viewers to watch their favourite sport live anywhere, any time.

The first live NBA game arrives on the morning of Friday 19 January, as the Chicago Bulls head into Canada to take on the Toronto Raptors.

Chicago's Coby White has admitted that their campaign has not gone to plan thus far, but they are fighting to put things right: "The season didn’t start how we wanted it to start. Everybody’s ready to contribute when the opportunity presents itself," said the point guard.

The weekend features a double dose of the Brooklyn Nets, as they first take on the Los Angeles Lakers on the morning of Saturday 20 January, before being in action the following evening with a clash against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Nets have had a mixed season thus far, with coach Jacque Vaughn wanting to see more dedication and patience from his players: "It really is like a boxing match: When you get hit, how are you going to respond?" he said.

"We can’t think that making shots is the response. If you’re really desperate about winning, then you’ll dive on the floor, and you’ll do it all and you’ll get cuts and bruises and you’ll go home sore. We’re not there yet. It’s just as simple as that."

The midweek brings a tough trip for the defending NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, as they head to the Indiana Pacers on the morning of Wednesday 24 January, while the morning of Thursday 25 January features the Houston Rockets taking on the Portland Trail Blazers in Texas.

Rockets coach Ime Udoka is calling on his team to get their heads right and forget the many close losses they have experienced this season: "Much more than anything physical right now is a lot of mental work that needs to be done,” he explained.

“What we really talked about is where we’re at right now. We’re at .500, which is average, not a great feeling, and where we want to get to.”
