As it is written, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small single handedly owned the entirerty of 2019.

The collaborative duo, who unleashed no less than two studio albums, The Scorpion Kings and The Return of Scorpion Kings respectively, emerged as two of the most streamed South African artists both on streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music. This bore proof that Porry and Kabza dominated not only the charts, the airwaves and the streets, where they had everyone doing their take of the pouncing cat dance to their litany of amapiano bangers, but they also shook the table in the streaming world. 

Maphorisa, who's production credits include works on Drake's 2016 Billboard #1 joint, One Dance, proved in the past year that one's creative capabilities need not be constrained by the parameters of genres. He's been able to transition seamlessly from deeper house to gqom, and now to amapiano. There, the dance music maestro has struck gold with sterling collaborations. Kabza De Small, Sha Sha and Samthing Soweto are amongst the names of producers and musos he worked with to bang out back to back hits. 

Kabza De Small is arguably the best performing newcomer. While the music producer has been finessing his productive edge creating amapiano delights years, the year proved to mark his breakout moment. He's earned himself the consideration of being one of the godfather for the genre for his pioneering contributions. Now he is pocketing. 

Announced as the most streamed South African artist by Spotify in December 2019, there's no doubt his persistence is finally paying off.
