Ami Faku has come to shake things up, and the numbers are trickling in to support her mission. 

In 2019, the Eastern Cape born singer premiered her debut album Imali to raving reviews. The 11 track project offers listers a delightful encounter with Faku's beautiful songwriting skills, which she uses to tells stories on themes of love and life in her native Xhosa language. Lush and smooth, the album finds Ami Faku pitching her own tent within the local music landscape. And it's a vibe that departs from the dominant sounds taking up most of the space and clout. 

Instead the songbird, who's already touched the Gold plaque thanks to her collaboration with El Musician's 'Into Ingawe', sustains authentic sound as she delivered a solid set of beautiful Afro-Soul songs with the vocal and lyrical virtousity we need to keep the less groovy parts of the game preserved. 

It paid off. 

By the end of the year, Ami Faku had become the only newcomer to appear on Spotify's list of Top 100 most streamed female artists in South Africa. It's a destinction that's that sees her join the arsenal of established musos Shekhinah and Lady Zamar, who's made quite a name for themselves as digital favourites.
