It was always going to be a brutal night. With nine housemates left, and six up for eviction, a whole bunch of them needed to leave to get the final week started. While that’s all good and well, spare a thought for the three who came so close but had to leave.
Justin was one of those “silent” housemates. He never put himself on blast, never totally dominated a conversation, but his contribution to the house’s mood was certainly felt. Hi typically upbeat personality always helped produce a mellow mood, although his poorly conceived jokes earlier this week did rub some of the other housemates up the wrong way.
Watch: Bad joke Justin
Once he had left the house, Justin walked onto the stage with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. “There are no words to describe how I’m feeling right now. I’m extremely proud with how far I’ve made it.” Which is exactly the sort of positivity we’ve come to expect from this young man.
From the moment he entered the house 70 days ago, it was obvious that Blaqboi was going to be one of the major players in the house, and his partnership with Ipeleng was one of the strongest of the season. Even after the pairs had been split, Ipeleng chose him to accompany her to the HoH bedroom the first time she won the title. That said, she didn’t pick him to go through to the finale, which is why he may have told Ebuka and Lawrence that he was rooting for Khosi during his exit interview.
When Ebuka asked him why everyone seems happy to be leaving the house, Blaqboi said, “we’re just happy to see people,” which is a perfectly acceptable answer. “At this point, I feel like my fate is to leave the house now.”
Thabang has had a tumultuous week. His simmering relationship with Khosi boiled over, getting tongues wagging all over social media. Sure, there have been a few hiccoughs along the way, but the “Baby of the house” as a strong favourite amongst fans – just not strong enough, it seems.
“Coming into the game, I didn’t have a strategy,” Thabang told the presenters. “I think I’m lucky to have gotten as far as I got.” Of course, Lawrence could help but ask him what the deal is with Khosi, and whether it was strategy.
“Khosi and my unionship [his word] was a complicated one. We started as friends. It’s when speculation started that something was going on that something actually started going on.” Which is a dodge to the question, yes, but it’s an entertaining one.
While we’ll certainly miss all three of tonight’s evicted housemates, the most important thing of the night is that we now know our six finalists: Ebubu, Ipeleng, Kanaga Jnr, Khosi, Tsatsii, and Yvonne will be living in the house for one more week, hoping for your votes. You know what to do. Voting is open.
