In case you are wondering why all eyes are on Akwaaba Magic this month, it is because of our brand-new series, Amoanimaa’s Era, which is currently making all the headlines. The show which launched on 30 September is a banger and you need to catch the fever if you haven’t already.
The series follows the story of Amoanimaa, the goddess of the Earth known locally as Asaase Yaa. She is unexpectedly handed a crown and a throne way above her league due to her kindness and compassion. As the pump and pageantry are going on, Amoanimaa’s brother, Antwi, sees her as a usurper who has taken what rightfully belongs to him being the first child of their father and has been serving the throne since he came into existence.
From the get-go, we are thrown into an atmosphere of animosity as Antwi scours the celestial universe in search of a way to take what he has considered his birthright. Oblivious of Amoanimaa, who sees their father’s gesture as a mere honor, she would now have to look before she leaps as Antwi gathers enough firepower to knock her down eternally.
In what appears like a time-lapse, the series throws us into another dimension of time where Amoanimaa awakens from what was supposed to be an eternal slumber - denoting that she lost the battle against her brother, Antwi. Now, she wakes up in an entirely new space and instantly seeks to reclaim her former glory.
What we have gathered so far is that Amoanimaa would try to assert herself in this new world and do all she can to gain the power and reverence she once wielded. She would however need someone or some people to guide her through this new era because things are not the same anymore.
The once-feared goddess is hit with athazagoraphobia as she wanders these modern times seeking remembrance and loyalty. As it stands, she would need to form some alliances to be able to make any headway.
Diverting from Amoanimaa’s path, we take a look at Kofi Asomani who is currently going through it having worked as a traditional healer in Asempa for a year after relocating from the city. His life now hangs in the balance after he is summoned to the palace to answer questions about the passing of his latest patient.
Kofi, not perturbed by the unfortunate situation, is however worried that if things do not go according to plan, he may leave his son who is wheelchair-ridden all alone and the thought alone scares him. He would also need to ensure he can practice his medicine as he has now attracted a tag to himself following the death case. Will Kofi Asomani see another day after following the orders of Asempa chief, Nana Kweku Duah? Will the paths of Amoanimaa and Kofi Asomani cross? Will Amoanimaa be able to grow her powers to their full potential? Many questions are pending. We can only stay calm as the story unfolds.
