The announcement of the rerun of the popular local language show, Nana Akoto has been met with so much excitement as fans of the show are eager to rewatch and get those who could not see it the first time also excited to watch and join this epic tale train.

The show is just a few episodes in, but the nostalgia associated with it is at an all-time high since fans are already enjoying the themes of love, betrayal, and friendship mixed with pockets of calculated battles and acts of diplomacy. Fans are just as excited to see the return of the pompous Ntim and the quiet but tactful Akoto alongside other characters.

In case you missed it the first time, here are very good reasons for you to take the time to watch the tale of royalty told from the lens of Ghana’s rich history. But first, let’s give you a sneak peek.

First off (probably the best reason), the show is entirely in the popular Ghanaian local language, Twi, which is spoken and understood by many. Language is quite important, and Nana Akoto has employed this trump card to ensure that lovers of pure Ghanaian entertainment and indigenous drama can enjoy the show and relate to it at all levels. What is even more exciting is that other variations of the Akan language are also spoken in the series making it even more enjoyable due to this important diversity.

Another reason not to miss Nana Akoto’s return is how it hits so close to home. Although we are made to understand that it is fictional, the storyline takes up aspects of Ghana’s real history and culture and tells of life in the past succinctly depicting how kingdoms were formed, governed and developed into the powerful states we have now. Denyira, Kwaaman, Fanteland, Otumfuor and a host of other names and symbols make the series rich in cultural and historical heritage.

Aside from the heritage being depicted, the crop of talent in Nana Akoto indeed understood the assignment and played their roles to perfection. In case you did not get to immerse yourself in the show when it first aired, you have another chance to see a masterful performance from the cast. Characters like Ntim, Gyaasehene, Dufie, Okomfo Kusi, and a host of others go over and beyond to bring the characters to life. The characters would make you fall so much in love that you want to keep seeing them week in and week out - even Ntim who many would come to love to hate. You will understand when you watch the series.😆

Again, the themes in Nana Akoto are expertly dealt with and expressed to the latter. For instance, the themes of friendship, love and betrayal take a mind-boggling twist in the show. Akoto and Ntim - friends who become like brothers - are thrown into a love triangle with Abrafi, Gyaasehene’s daughter who would rather reserve all her love for Akoto instead of Ntim who would become Denkyerahene. Despite knowing full well that embroiling in this triangle could cause the fall of an empire, Akoto still risks it all for love and…enough of the spoilers.😜 Watch this snippet of how an act of forbidden love would come to breed enmity between the princes of Denkyera and Kwaaman.
