The Best Dressed Award for male and female had loads of people talking online, IK and Amina were on fire and Funke Akindele made history as the winner with the most awards when she won Best Actress in a Comedy. Here are the top five moments that stood out at the seventh edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
Funke Akindele makes history
Funke will probably have to look into creating an AMVCA corner in her home just to accommodate the growing number of awards she continues to rake in. The made popular by Jenifa’s Diary series actress bagged her fifth AMVCA award for her role in Moms at War. She has previously won in 2013 for The Return of Jenifa, in 2014 for The Return Of Sheri Koko, in 2015 for Jenifa's Diary and in 2017 for Best TV Show in Jenifa’s Diary.
Living in Bondage wins big
The Charles Okpaleke produced movie and Ramsey Nouah directed Nollywod blockbuster clinched eleven nominations out of which it took home seven awards. Among the awards, the movie won are Best Overall Movie and Best Director for Ramsey Nouah and Steve Gukas. It is the first AMVCA win for Nouah who was visibly absent at the event.
Best Actor and Best Actress starred in the same movie
Timini Egbuson and Toyin Abraham delivered the best performances of their career to date in Elevator Baby and for that, they both bagged Best Actor and Best Actress respectively. The sweet spot was when Ultimate Love co-host and sister to Egbuson, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, announced the winner with palatable joy and excitement!
Best Dressed Award causes a ruckus online
The newly launched Best Dressed Award for male and female generated quite a lot of talk ability on the internet. There were a lot of OMG outfits that deserved the accolade but in the end, it was those who managed to make the stated cut off time to have their pictures snapped on the designated photo booth whose images were voted for by the number of likes on Africa Magic’s Instagram account that who legible for the award.
Mercy Eke and Mike Edwards of Big Brother Naija fame collected the highest number of likes and thus, each won Best Dressed Male and Female respectively, an award that was sponsored by Amstel Malta.
West and East combined to make a fiery combo
A new flavour was added to the seventh edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in the form of an East African presenter: Amina Abdi Rabar. She executed her co-hosting duties with AMVCA veteran, Ik Okasiduwa, and everybody agrees that she did a stellar job. She held her own and her personality and wit shone through.
