KINDLY READ THE DIALOGUE FOR DEBBY

(ANTOINETTE, DEBBY)

ANTOINETTE AND DEBBY ARE GIVEN MENUS BY FRANK. AS HE HANDS HER MENU HE LINGERS, GIVING HER A HARD LOOK. ANTOINETTE NOTICES BUT DEBBY PRETENDS NOT TO. AFTER A BEAT FRANK TURNS AND GOES BACK TO THE BAR.

DEBBY

(scanning the menu)

So much to choose from. And look at some of these prices!

ANTOINETTE

(reading between the lines)

Go ahead and order whatever you want. My treat.

DEBBY

Lovely. Lobster it is then!

ANTOINETTE

(ignores the joke)

I take it that job of yours doesn't afford you a particularly comfortable lifestyle.

DEBBY

(bitter laugh)

You're right about that!

(Pause)

Well, I have... the family money. You know. I've got a teensy little trust fund in my name, though I can't access it yet. Mother still oversees it and dispenses what I need. Which is usually dependent on her feelings in the moment.

(Bitter laugh again)

Sometimes she pulls the purse strings a little tighter than at others. Just to choke me a little.

ANOTHER HOLLOW LAUGH BUT ANTOINETTE DOES NOT JOIN HER.

ANTOINETTE

What's her problem?

DEBBY MERELY SHRUGS, SO ANTOINETTE CHANGES TACK.

ANTOINETTE (CONT'D)

So you're finding that... mother, is quite controlling. With regards to money I mean.

DEBBY

It's just her way of getting my attention. You know how she operates yeah?

ANTOINETTE

I do, yes... Very true.

DEBBY

(suddenly intense)

Listen, this is all very nice and all, us getting to know each other. But you can't really expect me to even think about trusting you if you won't tell me why you left home.

OUT ON A TENSE ANTOINETTE, WHO IS COMPLETELY CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY THIS ABRUPT DETOUR.

AUDITION SCRIPT (MALE)

KINDLY READ THE DIALOGUE FOR JACK.

(JAMES, JACK)

JAMES AND JACK WALK IN, JACK IN A GREAT MOOD WHILE JAMES IS SULLEN.

JACK

Ziggy’s is such a great place but I didn’t know that they could do breakfast like that. Everything on point.

JAMES SAYS NOTHING AS THEY BOTH SIT. JACK SIGHS WITH SATISFACTION, RUBBING HIS BELLY. JAMES PUT HIS PHONE AND FOCUSES ON IT.

JACK (CONT’D)

We should go there more often James, I don’t think Aunty Antoinette will like it though.

SILENCE.

JACK(CONT’D)

But your dad will, two less mouths to worry about, right?

JACK LAUGHS. JAMES SHOOTS HIM A GLARE BUT HE MISSES IT.

JACK (CONT’D)

Kemi is such a cool babe. So straightforward. She’s not afraid to ask questions, that’s for sure--

JAMES

(explodes)

And you’re not afraid to move in on my girl, are you Jack? Is this how you are?

JACK

Move in on who? What are you talking about?

JAMES

I’m talking about Kemi! She’s mine so you better stop what you’re doing o.

JACK

You think I’m making moves on Kemi? Wait sef, why do you even care? I thought you said you’re just friends.

JAMES BECOMES EMBARRASSED AS WELL AS ANGRY.

JAMES

I don’t plan to be just friends for much longer.

JACK

I see. Anyway, I was just being friendly. There was nothing more to it.

JAMES

(sneering)

And you were there forming yankee and talking about your famous family all morning.

JACK

Come JAMES! It wasn’t like that.

JAMES

If you think you can come here and take my babe from under my nose, you can think again. Stay away from her, Jack. I’ve said my own.
